Perch scale or smart perch? Which one you actually need
The real difference between a perch scale and continuous weight tracking: measurement frequency, sustainability and cost — and why a simple scale is enough for most bird keepers.
PirPeek attaches to the cage like any regular perch. Your bird gets used to it, lands on it and goes about its day — measurements are collected silently in the background.
Sensor layout — illustrative
Every time your bird lands, its weight is measured with gram-level precision. Over time this builds a steady weight curve — one of the most honest indicators of health.
The cage's temperature and humidity are monitored continuously. Sudden changes and conditions unsuitable for your bird are recorded.
The environment's light and dark periods are tracked. Lighting conditions that affect your bird's sleep become visible.
Weighing by hand, catching the bird or introducing a strange device into the cage is stressful — and measurements taken under stress are misleading. PirPeek hides the measurement inside the bird's natural behaviour: the bird lands on the perch, the data is collected. That's it.
Bird lands → the measurement is logged silently
PirPeek is designed to fit standard cage bars; no tools required.
On first start you join the perch's own network with your phone and pick your home Wi-Fi once.
The perch sends measurements to the cloud at regular intervals; the app can access them from anywhere.

PirPeek is designed primarily for small caged birds such as budgerigars. We're working on additional sizes.
PirPeek doesn't look any different from an ordinary wooden perch. Birds usually accept the new perch within a few days.
No. The perch attaches to the cage without tools, and Wi-Fi setup takes a few minutes with your phone.
PirPeek is currently in development. We'll announce the launch date on this website — if you're curious, drop us a line.

Ways to weigh a caged bird without catching it: a perch on a scale, the container method, training for voluntary weighing, and a smart perch. Which scale, what time, how to record.
